Our "D" litter was born this morning August 1st by Mae von Munterkeit and sired by FC Billy von Moosbach-Zuzelek. It caught us by surprise a bit. Mae had 3 puppies with her last litter so we were expecting a smaller litter but found out she was carrying 7-8 puppies when she had an x-ray taken last week. We assumed less but were very excited for the good news, 8 puppies! Nonetheless, Mae is very strong and healthy. She did not look that large and carried the puppies without a problem.
The Whelping
Mae started panting, nesting and being restless on Tuesday. Her temperature started to drop below 99.5°F that night. At 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday morning she had her first puppy. The puppies arrived rather quickly and with ease. She had all of the puppies in 2 hours. The final puppy was born at 7:35 a.m.. I was a bit concerned most of the day after the 7th puppy arrived because the x-ray told us she may have 8 puppies. I thought she might have a puppy left so we ended up taking her to the vet to get an x-ray to avoid any complications. Besides that all of the puppies were/are healthy. In total Mae had seven puppies, five boys and two girls just like her sister Mariel.
The puppies are not named yet but here is their time of birth and weight are as follows:
1. Green ribbon (Boy) - Born 5:35 a.m.
Day 1 - 280g
2. Blue ribbon (Boy) - Born 5:47 a.m.
Day 1 - 250g
3. Orange ribbon (Boy) - Born 5:51 a.m.
Day 1 - 333g
4. Red ribbon (Boy) - Born 6:12 a.m.
Day 1 - 274g
5. Purple ribbon (Girl) - Born 6:55 a.m.
Day 1 - 263g
6. Yellow ribbon (Boy) - Born 7:15 a.m.
Day 1 - 331g
7. Yellow/Red ribbon (Girl) - Born 7:35 a.m.
Day 1 - 255g
