Today we received another surprise email from our good friend Kevin Lutz of Columbia, PA where using leashed dogs to recover wounded deer is halfway in the process of becoming legal. Kevin owns one of Mariel's puppies from 2010. In the past we have learned that Archie has his own business card, has had some adventurous tracking stories, and he has even established his own fan club in the neighborhood by wining everyones heart. This time Archie did it again by having his own featured article on the Lancaster New Era Sunday News. To view the article on Archie please click on...

Archie von Tierspur finds his first deer of the season
Posted on October 9, 2011 by Gentian Shero
We recently got this email from Kevin Lutz of Columbia, Pennsylvania. Kevin owns and tracks with Archie von Tierspur. Both Archie and Kevin seem to be doing pretty well and they make a great tracking team.
"Hi guys. Congratulations on getting your new puppy . Old Archie received two calls this week. One he found after a long ordeal that I'll call you and tell you about, too much to write in an email and as you can tell e-mail is a little painful for me. The other deer we didn't find due to no blood and it rained all night...

Mariel's Tracking Academy Graduation Video
Posted on October 3, 2011 by Gentian Shero
This is a video of Mariel taking the Deer Search artificial blood tracking test back in May. Taking the test is not a requirement for Deer Search dogs and handlers. However, if you have a dog that is a good tracker, it is better to certify it. That way the dog's and your hard work dosen't goes to waste. Once a dog has been certified and has recovered a number of deer, she can then enter the Deer Search Hall of Fame.
Any breed of dogs is permitted to enter the test. In order for a dog to be admitted to...

Posted on September 26, 2011 by Gentian Shero
On September 15th the whole Shero family, including baby Dea and the dachshunds Mae and Mariel, drove to JFK to pick up our new puppy, Achilles of Trace-ja. After a year and a half of correspondence with Dragutin Milosevic of Jagodina, Serbia, the moment we were all waiting for had come. Achilles journey lasted 48 hours. He flew from Belgrade to Moscow and from Moscow to JFK. He had to stay in Moscow for 10 hours which made his journey even harder. In the end Achilles made it to New York safe and sound. At first, we did not know...

Posted on September 20, 2011 by Gentian Shero
The tracking and hunting season will be here before we know it and we are all eagerly waiting for it. In the meantime, reading tracking and hunting stories builds the momentum and it is entertaining as well. Today we have two short reports from the 2010 von Tierspur wire-haired dachshunds. The first on is from Abby von Tierspur aka Blue, and the second one is from her sister Ava von Tierspur aka Millie. Blue is owned by Bob Davidson of Katy Texas and Millie is owned by Jesse Reece of Dawsonville, Georgia.
This is what Bob wrote to us about Blue's dove...

Posted on August 17, 2011 by Gentian Shero
Great news for Virginia hunters who can now legally use tracking dogs to recover wounded deer and bear. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries recently anounced on their website:
"Tracking Dogs Recent legislation allows:
Tracking dogs maintained and controlled on a lead may be used to find a wounded or dead bear or deer statewide during any archery, muzzleloader, or firearm bear or deer hunting season, or within 24 hours of the end of such season, provided that those who are involved in the retrieval effort have permission to hunt...
